On the road | MODULE 2

Stretches

In the past few lessons I've expressed the importance of stretching for your little on on road trips. Stretching will help their little bodies feel more comfortable, get their wiggles out, give them some positive stimulation and attention, and set them up for successful naps while you're driving.

Here are some great stretches to do during your car stops:

  • Bicycles! You've likely done these before at home! Place your baby face up on the seat bench or ground and gently grab their calves. Bend your baby’s left leg and push the left knee up to the chest. While doing this, straighten the other leg down. Gently alternate between both legs slowly.
  • Ball and Pencil. Push both knees towards the chest. Then, pull both legs straight and down toward the floor. Repeat a few times.
  • Boxing Baby. Encourage your child to grab your thumbs in their hands. Then, slowly bend and straighten their arms. You can also do this with your baby’s legs. Curl their toes around your thumbs, then gently hold onto their feet with your fingers. Slowly alternate their legs in the air as if they’re kick-boxing.

Remember to not rush this. Take your time, give your baby lots of love and encouragement. Sing to them or make silly faces/noises while you're doing the stretches. Give them lots of tickles and kisses--make this a bonding time for you and your baby while on the road!

Tomorrow, we'll dive into the next lesson: Entertaining Your Baby.
